Spend the first 20 minutes sharing out your T-charts with your group members, copy down their info and have them copy down your info.
Then, split into debate teams. Construct your arguments. Your argument should have (1) Your position (2) The counter-argument to your position (3) A refutation of the opponents counter-argument Opening Statements should have (1) The background knowledge of why we are at the point we are at where this is an issue. (2) What your position on the issue is (3) An overview of the three points you are going to argue in support of your position. Finish reading and annotating your pages on the debate topic and complete your T-Chart of what did you read that could be used for the Pro side of the argument and what could you use that would work for the Con side of the argument?

Create a New Deal Soup Can for a New Deal program and present it to the class. Task:
White paper - read over the speeches by Roosevelt and Hoover. Image these are two speeches given during a presidential debate. Then, look at the eight “audience” member questions. Construct a response to each question. Four questions should be answered by Roosevelt and Four by Hoover. (note: two questions are specifically directed to a particular candidate, you have free choice on the other questions to choose for them to answer) THEN Yellow Paper - This is the first Fireside Chat Roosevelt gave to the public on the banking crisis and his Bank Holiday. Read over the address then answer the questions on the last page. Review last week's main points.
